Ahmadinejad's 'Islamic Republic News Agency' gushes over NUJ boycott and UK anti-Zionist JewsScroll down for UPDATE (JBIG's response)
The Iranian state news agency crows in its headline: "British Jews welcome journalists joining Israeli boycott".

Iran is run by a regime which ruthlessly clamps down on those who fight for democratic rights in that country. The regime denies the Holocaust, calls for Israel to be wiped off the map and arms the antisemitic organizations Hizbollah and Hamas, who are trying to realize that aspiration. The official Iranian news agency reports in glowing terms a letter which "JBIG" (Jews for boycotting Israeli Goods) had published in the guardian on Wednesday. The letter is signed by Deborah Fink, Naomi Wimborne-Idrissi, Mike Cushman, Sylvia Finzi, Tony Greenstein, Ruth Tenne, Deborah Maccoby, Prof Moshe Machover, Mike Marqusee.

All but one of these JBIG signatories are also signatories of "Independent Jewish Voices", a group which says that it is in favour of social justice and universal human rights.

Deborah Fink, who seems to speak for "JBIG" says that their aim is to kosherize the boycotting of Israeli goods. She has also described Israel as a "satanic state".

The piece on the Iranian state website goes on as follows:
A Jewish campaign group Wednesday welcomed the decision by Britain's National Union of Journalists (NUJ) to join the international boycott of Israeli goods, saying it was a "courageous" move.

"Given Israel's contempt for international law, with the complicity of the US and UK governments, pressure has to be increased by civil society if justice is to be achieved," Jews for Boycotting Israel Goods (JBIG) said.

"A boycott of Israeli goods is a legitimate form of grassroots action and is particularly appropriate as Israel is destroying the Palestinian economy. Such a boycott has been called for by Israeli peace organizations," the British-based campaign group said.

The NUJ, representing some 35,000 journalists in the UK, voted to join the international boycott of Israeli goods at its annual conference earlier this month.

In a letter to the Guardian newspaper Wednesday, JBIG said that it was as a result of its illegal occupation, Israel is able to flood the Palestinian market with its products, while preventing Palestinian farmers from growing and trading their own.

"We believe Israel's actions betray Jewish ethical traditions - the cutting down of olive and fruit trees is prohibited by Jewish law," the letter said.

It also warned that the "continuing occupation and exploitation of Palestinian land is a major obstacle to peace for Israelis and Arabs alike which has global implications for world peace." JBIG was set up by Jewish residents in Britain as an outcome of the deep frustration that Jewish peace activists were said to feel towards the inaction displayed by the Jewish community with regard to Israel's repressive occupation of Palestinian land.

The same official Iranian state website uncritically publishes the words of wisdom of its beloved President on the subject of the Holocaust:
Turning to his first question, he said, "If a historical event has taken place, why do you not allow research to be conducted on it. What is the mystery behind it, given that even fresh research is conducted on definite rules of mathematics and physics.?" Ahmadinejad referred to his first question, "If such an event has actually taken place, where did it happen?
UPDATE Deborah Fink, apparently JBIG's spokesperson, writes that "at least Iranians will see that not all Jews and Israelis, support Israel's policies." She goes on apparently to deny that Ahmadinejad is an antisemite: "In any case, it is not clear that Ahmajinidad wants to wipe out Israel, but just wants to get rid of Zionism, which is not the same thing."
